The building of the Theatre at the Beckergrube - donated by Senator Emil Possehl - marked an important cultural signal for the Hanse City of Lübeck at the beginning of the 20th century. At the end of this century, the Musik- und Kongre2halle Lübeck sets a similar sign. The architect Meinhard von Gerkan designed a cultural and congress centre for Lübeck and the Land of Schleswig-Holstein that - with its clear language of forms, based on the geometry of Greek temples, and its harmony of the materials metal, glass and stone - represents a clear profession to our times. The music and congress hall has become a meeting place of national and international significance.
