Throughout the 20th century, 'English Literature' has transformed into 'Literatures in English,' significantly influencing English literary criticism. This shift has opened new areas of study and sparked critical debates regarding terminology, approaches, and values, particularly in Postcolonial Studies. This volume reviews the current landscape, aiming to identify the creative potential within the globalized realm of English literature and literary studies. It examines a variety of themes, featuring voices from around the world that engage in dialogue to advance literary theory and critical practice. The volume stems from an International Conference organized by CISLE at the University of Innsbruck, showcasing contributions from thirty-eight scholars addressing topics like literary criticism versus cultural studies, intermediality, and the comparative approach, alongside postcolonial discourse, ethnic identity, interculturality, and more. Notable contributors include Joan Anim-Addo, Dennis Haskell, and Edwin Thumboo, among others.
