Agathe de Bailliencourt is a painter whose work spans installations, canvas, and paper, emphasizing repetition, joy, and a tangible presence. Her site-specific installations connect directly to their context, while her studio work reflects her personal experiences in a spontaneous manner. Through her canvas and paper creations, she explores themes of imperfection, failure, progress, and exultation. In her installations, the removal of physical boundaries aids her in gaining control over other limits, systems, and schools of thought. These two aspects of her work inform and influence one another, creating what has been described as "an irreconcilably dialectical journey," necessitating a process of "un-learning" and "re-learning." De Bailliencourt seeks a liberating image that emerges from this confrontation between societal rationality, which emphasizes function, and artistic rationality, which encompasses broader concepts. This publication aims to encapsulate these themes, showcasing a selection of her installations alongside her canvas and paper works. It coincides with her first major solo exhibition in New York City, where her vibrant paintings will be displayed.
