And New Life Blossoms from the Ruins

A gripping portrayal of ten years of turmoil from the dictatorship of Hitler's Third Reich to the democracy of the German Federal Republic. A young boy tells the story of his life during these turbulent years. After being swept from his still intact Mulheim in the Ruhr Basin to Waldenburg in Silesia in the East of Germany and after a miraculous escape from the Soviet steam roller he finds his way back to his bombed out home town. Only very gradually the hope for a better future begins to replace the doom of mere survival. Then the Marshall Plan turns the hope into the reality of a new life. The historical facts of those years are woven into the boy's personal experiences; and the author relives the epochal changes looking back once more with the insights of a life time.
