The book is the last volume of the Collected Works of Jan Firbas covering the author's work published between 1994 and 2000. During this period, Firbas compares his conception of a functional sentence perspective with other approaches to information structure and focuses on deeper research into biblical texts. A detailed analysis of one of the biblical texts is also the basis of a revealing article on the dynamic-semantic homogeneity of the paradigmatic layers of a text. Firbas's last article, published in the year of his death, summarizes the main principles of FSP. Like the previous four volumes covering works from 1951–1993, the fifth volume also contains prefaces, annotations, and biographical notes.
