The death of Rhona Rosowicz brings her remaining family to the decaying Edinburgh mansion where she and her daughter Esme had lived a solitary life. Surrounded by people she hardly knows. Esme's behaviour excites attracts and infuriates her relations as their lives intertwine in the mode of a dance.
