From the launch in 1838 of Brunel's 'Great Western' to the latest Cunard liner 'Queen Mary 2', the age of the tranatlantic liner is still very much alive. By the late 19th century the golden age of the liners was underway and the scene set for a growth and later decline in this luxury form of travel.
