Ernst Weiß (1882-1940), highly regarded by his contemporaries, is nowadays unknown to most readers of literature. Less deplorable but overall nonetheless unsatisfactory is the current state of research on Weiß. Commendable efforts notwithstanding we still lack a comprehensive study of the whole body of work. This book shall close the gap. For the first time the evolution of Weiß’ Œuvre is traced in its entirety. The endeavor itself as well as its object of analysis are to be conceived as socio-analysis as defined by Pierre Bourdieu. Making the novels of Ernst Weiß the object of a socio-analysis it will be shown how the author takes his position within the literary field by means of as socio-analysis of bourgeois culture.
