The Diary of Alice James

Więcej o książce

Alice James (1848-1892), the youngest child and only daughter of the wealthy and eccentric Henry James, Sr., spent much of her life at home, largely isolated from society and deprived of extensive formal education and public recognition. A victim of a society that limited women's lives, Alice struggled with a depressive malaise that affected her sense of identity and integrity. However, in the journal she kept during the last four years of her life, Alice emerges as a formidable and triumphant individual. Her diary reveals a vigorously opinionated, intellectually curious, and extremely gifted writer renegotiating her position within the discourses of her time.
