Teaching thinking in general, rather than merely teaching thinking within curricular subject areas, has become an extremely trendy area of education. In Britain both the current Education Secretary and his last two predecesors have given it priority and devoted plenty of resources to it (witness the forthcoming DfES website on the subject). Few teachers covered this area in their pre-service training and so there is a large in-service demand (hence the rising sales each year of Robert Fisher's Teaching Thinking).
