Family is complicated-and loss in the family is even more complicated. Ed and his younger brother Cal had a great summer planned: Friends, fun, and fret boards-a big push to get their band off the ground and start playing shows before Ed heads off to trade school in the fall. Instead, their plans are turned upside down when they catch wind that their grandma Bernie is fading fast. With her refusal to move into a proper assisted living situation, Ed volunteers to care for her without hesitation, joined quickly by Cal and aided by their best friend J.J. and the other members of their would-be band. The teens have their work cut out for them however, as the worn wood house is more than a mess both inside and out, and Bernie is less than agreeable on most things. Can they give her the comfortable twilight days she deserves? And when the rains of autumn bring heartache and loss instead of quiet days of homework and family time, can Ed learn to lean on those around him and adapt to a life that isn't what he expected?
