Kayli Winchester is a dirt-poor girl living in a hotel, struggling to care for her alcoholic father and teenage brother, whom she’s determined to keep in school. To survive, she resorts to her only skill: pickpocketing. Despite her criminal activities, she adheres to a moral code, targeting only those who can defend themselves. Unbeknownst to her, The Academy has been monitoring her actions and sees potential in her abilities. They offer her a way out: join them or face jail time. As she navigates this new world, Kayli discovers valuable lessons about living on the edge of the law. However, the job they present is more dangerous than anticipated, turning the hunters into the hunted, with a target now after Kayli. The Academy boys strive to keep her safe, but a thief like Kayli struggles to stay hidden. This marks the beginning of the Scarab Beetle series, featuring mature themes and situations.
