The Sanskrit words Śrī Ῑśopaniṣad mean "the knowledge that brings one nearer to the Supreme Person." As such, Śrī Ῑśopaniṣad directly counters the teachings of modern science, which say that at the root of existence lies not a person but merely abstract laws governing the chance collision of subatomic particles in the vast void of time and space. Individually, we rebel at the proposal that can be analyzed into lifeless laws and particles. We feel that personality is the solid foundation and unifying principle of our existence. That intuition is correct, says the Vedic philosophy of personality in every sphere of life and knowledge. And the essential Vedic teachings on the universal nature of personality are summarized in Śrī Ῑśopaniṣad, the foremost of the 108 Upaniṣads. As translated and explained by His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, the nineteen jewel-like mantras of Śrī Ῑśopaniṣad can release us from the bleak conceptions of impersonalism and put us in touch with the Supreme Person, the fountainhead of all energies and all happiness.
Complete with original Sanskrit, translations, and purports, Teachings of Lord Kapila discusses the significance of the guru, the psychology of consciousness, the characteristics of a self-realized person, the nature of transcendental knowledge, and the process of ultimate liberation from material existence.
What is consciousness? how do physical processes in the brain give rise to the self-aware mind and to feelings as profoundly varied as love or hate, aesthetic pleasure or spiritual yearning? consciousness is perhaps the most puzzling problem we humans face in trying to understand ourselves. In this thought-provoking book, scientists of the bhaktivedanta institute examine key underlying concepts of the modern life sciences in light of india's age-old vedic knowledge offering an elightening view of consciousness through the lenses of science and philosophy.
Throughout the ages, many divinely inspired teachers and incarnations of God have appeared in the world, but none has ever distributed spiritual love like the golden avatar, Lord Caitanya. ('Mahaprabhu' means the great Lord.) Caitanya is God (Krsna) Himself, in the role of His devotee, teaching the common man devotional service. Mahaprabhu appeared in Bengal and began a revolution in spiritual consciousness that has profoundly affected the lives of millions. Renowned as a great saint even in his youth, Lord Caitanya left His family and friends at the age of twenty four to teach the forgotten essence of ancient Vedic wisdom throughout India. Although he himself was a fully renounced mystic, He taught how one can act in spiritual consciousness even with one's home, occupation, and social affairs. This book narrates the extraordinary life of this great saint and explains the essence of His teachings.
Is there life after death? Srila Prabhupada tells how the soul travels from body to body, and how we can end the cycle of birth and death by reaching Lord Sri Krishna's ultimate abode. An excerpt: "The simple process of chanting the names of Krsna will reveal what one is, what God is, what the material and spiritual universes are, why we are conditioned, how we can get out of that conditioning - and everything else, step by step."
Self-realization explained. Through the interviews, lectures, essays, and letters of this book, Srila Prabhupada exhaustively explains how to practice yoga in the modern age. Topics include karma and reincarnation, superconsciousness, how to choose a guru, Krsna and Christ, and spiritual solutions to today's social and economic problems.
