Dogłębna analiza kryzysu cywilizacji Zachodu i szczegółowy program społecznej i psychologicznej rewolucji mającej uratować zagrożoną planetę. Pierwszy to dominujący w nowoczesnym społeczeństwie industrialnym modus posiadania, drugi modus bycia zakorzeniony w miłości i przewadze wartości humanistycznych nad materialnymi.

    • This extraordinary bestseller is still the most incisive, thought-provoking book ever written about the Middle East. Thomas L. Friedman, twice winner of the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting, and now the Foreign Affairs columnist on the op-ed page of the New York Times, drew on his ten years in the Middle East to write a book that The Wall Street Journal called "a sparkling intellectual guidebook... an engrossing journey not to be missed." Now with a new chapter that brings the ever-changing history of the conflict in the Middle East up to date, this seminal historical work reaffirms both its timeliness and its timelessness. "If you're only going to read one book on the Middle East, this is it." -- Seymour Hersh

First published in 1976, this autobiography contains Forrest Carter's--Little Tree's--remembrances of life with his Eastern Cherokee Hill country grandparents in the 1930s. There are 21 chapters, recounting humorous and serious episodes from a 5-year period and dealing with the themes of growing up, Indian life and values, family relationships, and the relationship of man and the earth. The book begins when the author is 5 years old and goes to live with his grandparents after the death of his parents. The first chapter tells how he was given the name of Little Tree by his grandmother and describes the mountain hollow and the cabin where he will live with his grandparents. In the second chapter, Little Tree learns to hunt wild turkey with his grandfather and learns the Cherokee ethics of hunting. Other chapters tell of borrowing great books from the library, fox hunting, friends and friendships, grandfather's trade of whiskey-making, gathering food, family history, planting, religion and going to church, and boarding school. The final chapter relates the deaths of Little Tree's grandfather and grandmother and his decision to head west on his own. (Jhz)

In his classic work, The Art of Loving , renowned psychoanalyst and social philosopher Erich Fromm explores love in all its aspects—not only romantic love, steeped in false conceptions and lofty expectations, but also brotherly love, erotic love, self-love, the love of God, and the love of parents for their children.

    • Frank Serpico is not an ordinary police officer. His passion for opera and ballet, along with his unkempt appearance and unusual pets—a shepherd dog, a white mouse, and a Guatemalan parrot—set him apart from his colleagues in the New York Police Department. However, it is not these eccentricities that truly distinguish him. In an environment where a code of silence protects the corrupt at the expense of the honest, Serpico faces severe consequences for refusing to conform to this unwritten rule that allows many officers to engage in dealings with criminals. Based on a true story and famously portrayed by Al Pacino in the film adaptation, "Serpico" offers a raw and poignant depiction of a man standing alone against the tyranny of violence. He emerges as a modern hero, risking his life in the pursuit of justice and truth.
