Szkoła okaże się kolejnym niefortunnym epizodem w życiu Baudelaire’ów. Nie oszukujmy się: w rozdziałach tej książki czyhają na Baudelaire’ów uszczypliwe kraby, surowe kary, kapiący grzyb, egzaminy ze wszystkiego, koncerty skrzypcowe, WYCISK i system metryczny. Moim przykrym obowiązkiem jest nie sypiać po nocach, tylko badać i opisywać historię tych trojga nieszczęsnych dziatek, ale Wy należycie, być może, do tych szczęśliwców, którzy lubią się spokojnie wysypiać. We, however, consider these miserable so-called adventure stories and the Hollywood film starring Jim Carrey that accompanied the books for children as nothing more than a dreadful mistake.
