      In 1974, the concept of an International Colloquium focused on structural instability in steel structures emerged in London, leading to 17 International Colloquia Stability Sessions worldwide, starting with Paris in 1972 and concluding in Nagoya in 1997. At the Nagoya session, it was decided to continue this series, launching the Sixth Colloquium in September 1999 at "Politehnica" University in Timişoara, Romania. This was followed by sessions in 2000 at Gediminas Technical University in Vilnius, Lithuania, during the SSRC's Year 2000 Annual Meeting in the US, and another in Australia or New Zealand. Significant research projects are currently underway globally, such as the SAC Joint Venture Project in the USA and the INCO-COPERNICUS "RECOS" in Europe, aimed at enhancing safety design methods for steel structures in seismic zones. Europe, the USA, and Japan are particularly focused on improving design codes and detailing for seismic-resistant steel structures. This focus prompted the Nagoya session to address "Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures." Given Romania's seismic activity, the Timişoara session also tackled stability and ductility issues, with a technical program divided into nine working sessions.
