This work stems from the research project "The Esterházy Landscape Garden in Eisenstadt," funded by the Jubilee Fonds of the Austrian National Bank and published with support from FWF. It presents a comprehensive monograph on one of Austria's notable historical gardens for the first time. The contributions explore various topics, including cultural heritage preservation, the garden's historical development, and a topochronological analysis of maps and plans through historical cartography. It also delves into plant history, focusing on a renowned greenhouse plant collection from the early 19th century and the diverse trees and shrubs within the garden. Given the significance of the greenhouses and their collections, the work emphasizes the exploration of building history and species-specific analysis. A detailed inventory of the historical composition of open ground species offers insights into the garden's botanical evolution, contrasting it with current ecological, vegetation-scientific, and floristic conditions. The second edition includes a study of the Gloriette (Temple of Mary), an essential part of the original landscape design. The final chapter provides a detailed guide for enthusiasts, featuring an annotated walk through the garden enriched with historical, literary, and botanical insights.
