The Guidebook is entirely devoted to the artists participating in Documenta 13. Each one is introduced in an illustrated essay written by one of the Documenta's agents, in close collaboration with the artists, who also contribute illustrations that are as diverse as the projects themselves. These essays are individual visual statements, ranging from drawings to notes. Narrative introductions to the various venues combine factual details with key ideas and concepts connected to each of the venues. Containing a map of the exhibition and brief descriptions of all of the sites and projects, this short guide is an indispensable tool for those attending Documenta 13 and anyone unable to visit the show in person.

Leiko Ikemura ist in unseren Breitengraden die bekannteste Künstlerin japanischer Herkunft. Sie ist Kunstprofessorin an der Universität der Künste Berlin und hat ein breites, international ausgestelltes Œuvre aus Skulptur und Malerei geschaffen, das von zahlreichen Museen und Sammlungen angekauft wurde.
