Ausstellungen: Günter Grass-Haus, Lübeck 8.7.-2.10.2011 École Normale Supérieure de Photographie (ENSP), Arles 9.11-11.12.2011 Literaturzentrum Vorpommern Koeppenhaus, Greifswald ab Februar 2012 Deutsch-Italienisches Kulturinstitut Venedig ab April/Mai 2012 Kurt Tucholsky Literaturmuseum Schloss Rheinsberg ab November 2012 Deichtorhallen Hamburg Kunsthalle Erfurt Und weitere Stationen

Martin Parr's extensive collections of photography books and postcards are celebrated worldwide, but he is also an avid collector of photographic and themed objects. In a two-volume set, his passion for focused accumulation is showcased with his characteristic humor. The first volume, Objects, features notable items like wristwatches adorned with Saddam Hussein's image, alongside kitsch memorabilia celebrating figures such as Lenin and the Spice Girls, as well as items commemorating events like Sputnik, Charles and Di's wedding, and 9/11. This is the first publication to document Parr's 25-plus years of collecting. The second volume, Postcards, serves as the definitive study of his impressive collection of over 20,000 postcards, presented in an album format. It offers a serious yet entertaining exploration of postcard history, including early cards depicting local news events like car crashes and murders, concluding with a selection of cards from the Boring Postcards series promoting motorways and shopping. Objects is introduced by Parr, while Postcards features an introduction by Thomas Weski, curator of the companion exhibition, Parrworld. This beautifully designed set will attract a broad audience, particularly Parr collectors who believe they own everything he has produced.

This collection explores the various ways in which photography shaped our view of the 20th century, at the same time providing a record of the radical changes undergone by our towns, landscapes and private lives. Carefully juxtaposed with the photographs are paintings and sculptures.
