Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker, despite their deep bond in the Force and three years of marriage, continue to navigate the challenges of their relationship amid the relentless demands of their Jedi duties. Their lives take a dramatic turn when they embark on an unexpected mission that requires them to combine their skills against a hidden enemy while uncovering a significant piece of Jedi history. The journey begins with a shocking message from Nirauan, the planet once dominated by Thrawn, where they narrowly escaped with their lives. After fifty years, the remains of Outbound Flight, a Jedi expedition destroyed by Thrawn, have been discovered, and the honor-bound aliens there wish to return the remnants to the New Republic. This mission entails a perilous voyage to the site of the tragedy, stirring a sense of foreboding in Mara. They are joined by a post-Palpatine Empire officer, Imperial stormtroopers, diplomats from a peaceful alien species, and a New Republic ambassador with his own agenda. As tensions rise aboard the isolated ship, an unknown saboteur threatens their mission. The greatest danger, however, lies within the derelict Outbound Flight itself, where Luke and Mara must confront stunning revelations and terrors that challenge everything they stand for, all while facing foes intent on completing Thrawn's ruthless legacy of exterminating the Jedi.
