In Edwardian London, the Shadowhunters face a deadly challenge in this romantic sequel to a bestselling novel. Cordelia Carstairs appears to have it all: an engagement to James Herondale, a new life in London with her best friend Lucie and the Merry Thieves, and a reunion with her father. However, their marriage is a facade, meant to protect Cordelia's reputation, as James harbors feelings for Grace Blackthorn, whose brother Jesse died in a tragic accident. Cordelia struggles with the burning pain from the legendary sword Cortana and her father's bitterness. Meanwhile, a serial killer is targeting Shadowhunters, striking under the cover of darkness and disappearing without a trace. Cordelia, James, and Lucie, along with the Merry Thieves, must navigate the perilous streets of London to uncover the identity of the knife-wielding murderer. Each character harbors a shocking secret: Lucie intends to resurrect Jesse; Cordelia has pledged loyalty to a mysterious power; and James is increasingly entangled in the dark influence of his grandfather, the arch-demon Belial, leading him to question whether he might be the very killer they are hunting.
