Roni Horn (b. 1955) is a significant contemporary artist celebrated for her sculptures, photography, and installations that draw inspiration from landscapes, particularly the isolated terrains of Iceland, where she has lived and traveled extensively since the early 1970s. Her work delves into themes of geology and climate, the relationship between nature, art, and place, and the connections among words, appearance, and identity. Horn has authored over twenty books and artist's books, while also being the subject of more than thirty publications, including a survey by Phaidon and various works by Steidl. Notable pieces include You Are the Weather (1994-96), featuring photographs of a young woman in Icelandic hot springs; Pair Objects (1988), which consists of identical metal sculptures in different locations; and the installation Library of Water (2007) in Iceland, showcasing columns enclosing water from melting glaciers. After earning her MFA from Yale, Horn journeyed across Iceland's interior on a motorcycle, returning over three decades to capture its stunning geology, climate, and culture. This book presents a variety of texts, from vignettes to illustrated essays for Iceland's leading newspaper, highlighting Iceland as a vital source of inspiration and documenting a unique environment facing climate change.
