In this epic tale, Grimnir, known by many names—Corpse-maker, Life-quencher, and Son of the Wolf—emerges from his lair, driven by a thirst for vengeance against the Dane who killed his brother. As the last of his kind, he navigates a world transformed by a new faith that threatens the Old Ways. Taking a young Christian hostage as his guide, Grimnir embarks on a perilous journey across Denmark, where ancient wisdom has succumbed to madness, and into the war-torn heart of southern England, where land spirits clash violently. His quest leads him to the shores of Ireland and the Viking stronghold of Dubhlinn, where his enemy awaits. Yet, to achieve his dream of retribution, Grimnir must confront his own hatreds. Dubhlinn becomes the battleground for a reckoning between the Old Ways and the New, forcing Grimnir to choose: ally with the Christian King of Ireland to fulfill his vengeance or oppose him and risk losing everything. This gripping narrative weaves themes of vengeance, faith, and the enduring power of myth, making for a complex and satisfying read.
