In ?Christian Z.?, Berlin-born artist Stefanie Scheurell uses photography to explore the turbulent life of the juggler Christian, a character who in his life repeatedly moves on the boundaries of social norms. On a physical as well as psychological level, he shifts between healthy and sick. Although Scheurell initially focused on human abysses, madness, and addiction, she often encountered exactly the opposite during her aesthetic research. Subjective impressions are translated into an archive of images accompanied by autobiographical texts by Christian. The personalised stories are intended to encourage a dialogue about borders, thresholds, and how to overcome them.
