This year's volume features two main themes: the body as public surface and new technologies of communication. Among the papers included for these themes are anthropology and circumcision, the evolution of human skin and skin color, music and global order, and the archaeology of communication technologies. In addition, papers are included in other topics, including the archaeology of state economies, archaeology in tropical sub-Saharan Africa, primary state formation in Mesoamerica, perspectives on the origins of urbanism, cannibalism, clothing and fashion, and the globalization of pentecostal and charismatic Christianity.
