In 1586, Sir Nicholas Beauvallet, a notorious corsair of the Elizabethan era, sails the seas with the Queen's blessing, eager to plunder Spanish ships aboard his vessel, the "Venture." Determined not to be a hostage, Dominica attempts to kill him but finds herself unexpectedly drawn to his boyish charm. Sir Nicholas, instead of simply taking his prize, is captivated by her beauty and courage. He surprises her by releasing her unharmed on the shores of Spain with her father. Dominica is left astonished when he vows to return for her, a promise that poses greater risks than any of his daring exploits. Undeterred by the dangers of the Spanish Inquisition and King Philip's army, he plans to return to Spain, driven by a reckless desire to claim Dominica as his bride.
