Więcej o książce

Dr. Theodor Mommsen's extensive research into the languages, laws, and institutions of ancient Rome and Italy is highly regarded by scholars. While it may seem presumptuous for me to introduce his work on Roman history to the English-speaking audience, I felt compelled to do so after being encouraged by admirers of Mommsen in Germany. My repeated readings of the original German text convinced me that he deserves recognition in this country. Consequently, I persuaded my friend, Mr. George Robertson, to translate the introductory chapters on the early inhabitants of Italy, a topic where Mommsen's expertise is unparalleled. I hoped that this sample would spark interest in the complete work, and I am pleased to say that it has. The result is this translation, and while I will not comment on its merits, I believe it will resonate with readers. Additionally, the publisher, Forgotten Books, is dedicated to preserving historical works, utilizing advanced technology to reconstruct and repair original texts while maintaining their integrity. Any remaining imperfections are intentionally preserved to honor the state of these significant historical documents.
