What was anticipated to be a few months of work extended into nearly a year. Despite the ongoing evolution of the country, every effort has been made to ensure the content is as current as possible, acknowledging that no publication can achieve complete accuracy in such a rapidly changing environment. Special thanks are extended to those who contributed to this revision, particularly Mrs. Samuel Gouling, whose meticulous proofreading and extensive knowledge of China greatly enhanced the book's value.
