This fifth of seven volumes in the Complete Works of Tchaikovsky contains three cycles: "Twelve Pieces of Average Difficulty,"Op.40; "Six Pieces," Op.51; and "Dumka," Op.59. This Urtext edition is based on the autograph manuscript and/or first edition(s) of the works. Other editions have also been consulted, whenever justified, with a full explanation of any discrepancies in the Notes. Obvious slips of the pen and printing errors have been tacitly corrected. Editorial additions, which have been reduced to a minimum, appear in square brackets. The composer's peculiarities of notation and original fingering are maintained throughout. All dates are in the Old Style. A biography of Tchaikovsky is also included.
