Svatá země (zhruba území dnešního Izraele) patřila ke kolébkám civilizací a byla odedávna místem jejich mísení, soupeření a ovlivňování. Místem, kde se odehrávaly a dodnes odehrávají kruté boje ve jménu vznešených filozofií. Mnoho z velkých civilizačních okruhů - židovství, antika, křesťanství a islámský svět se na tomto kousku země výrazně podepsalo a Svatá země se stala jakýmsi symbolem, jehož držení bylo znamením moci toho kterého společenství.
